Self Storage FAQs
Please review our frequently asked questions on self-storage below. If you find your question is not listed then please call one of our team members on 0208 963 3950 and they will be happy to offer you advice on the best self-storage solution for you.
What is mobile self-storage?
What’s the difference between mobile self-storage and traditional self-storage?
With traditional self-storage, you rent a space or room and either rent a van or do numerous trips back and forth to fill your storage space.
You can access your storage unit during business hours to add or remove items as you see fit and you will have to do all the heavy lifting yourself.
With mobile self-storage, you don’t have to take your possessions to an off-site facility: the storage facility comes to you!
You don’t have to hire a van or do numerous trips, with Mii Storage, our operatives will do the heavy lifting for you and load your storage unit safely and securely. Allowing you to get on with your day!
Once packed your storage crate will then be transported back to our secure storage facility until you request it back.
What is your service collection area?
Typically, within a 45 minute drive from our storage facility in NW10, London. For larger storage quantities or long-term storage, we can collect from further.
Do you collect at weekends?
Yes we do, however we may need to charge for this to cover some of our additional costs associated with weekend work.
Are there any hidden extras?
No, we want to be as transparent as possible providing the information you have supplied us is accurate. The only unknown is parking – if we do happen to receive a parking ticket/cost when we are loading your items we will need to pass this on at cost but will try our best to avoid getting any.
Do you provide boxes and packing materials?
Yes, we can provide storage boxes and packing material in advance of the collection to enable you to pack if required. Our charges are available on request.
How much does self-storage cost?
Self-storage costs vary from company to company and many factors can affect the price of a storage unit. Including the number of items you have to store, how long you intend to store your items for as well as the location of the storage facility has to be factored in (e.g. self-storage in London may be more expensive over companies located outside the capital).
At Mii Storage, our prices start from as little as £17.50 per week for a 35ft storage crate, which will typically hold the contents of a studio flat.
There is no limit to the number of storage crates you can hire and the more storage units you hire the cheaper the storage costs.
Is there a maximum or minimum storage period?
Mii Storage has no maximum or minimum storage period. The only thing we ask is that when you are ready for your items to be returned out of storage you contact our agents at least five working days prior, so we can then arrange a convenient time for delivery.
Speak to one of our agents today to receive a no-obligation storage quote.
Do I need to seek legal advice before signing an agreement?
No, our contract with you is an industry-standard contract and is written to protect you and Mii Storage from any disputes that may arise.
What can I store in my storage unit?
Almost any household item or furniture can be stored in our crates. If you are unsure please speak to one of our agents to confirm if your items are allowed.
You must not store any of the following in the self-storage unit:
- Compressed gases
- Any illegal substances or goods illegally obtained
- Any item which emits any fumes, smell or odour
- Toxic waste, asbestos or other materials of a potentially dangerous nature
- Firearms, explosives, weapons or ammunition
- Chemicals, radioactive materials or biological agents
- Birds, fish, animals or any other living creatures
- Food or perishable goods
Do I have to pay all my storage fees in advance?
We take payment upfront for the minimum storage period (excluding the delivery from store). Once this period has expired payment will be taken every month.
What should you not put in a storage unit?
For the safety of our employees and our customers and their goods, the following items should not be placed in a storage unit.
- Explosives
- Aerosol cans
- Gas canisters
- Firearms or ammunition
- Hazardous or toxic products
- High value or extremely precious goods
- Illegal goods
- Perishable goods
- Live animals or plants
- Contaminated waste
What security is used at your storage warehouse to protect my possessions?
We take the security of your possessions very seriously and our secure storage facility consists of the following security measures:
- 24/7 Digital CCTV both inside and outside of our storage facility
- Fire and smoke detection system, inspected regularly by the Fire Service
- 24/7 Alarm system
- An access control system, which only allows authorised personnel into the storage warehouse
Will clothes get ruined in a storage unit?
Keeping valuable clothing, like a wedding dress or seasonal clothing like spring and summer or autumn and winter clothes in a self-storage unit is an ideal way to create extra wardrobe space.
There is little risk of damage whilst in store. The best way to pack your clothes for long or short term storage is in a plastic container with a clip-on lid.
These containers are preferred over cardboard boxes as they will protect your clothes from dust, mold, moisture and mildew.
Are my goods insured?
Self-Storage insurance is not included as standard. We offer insurance for a small additional fee which is 1.5% of your consignment value per year.
How do I schedule a return delivery?
When you are ready for your items to be returned out of storage all we ask is that you contact our agents at least five working days before you require your items. We can then arrange a convenient time for delivery.
Will your agents help pack my storage crates?
If required, our operatives will carry out all the packing of items as well. As standard they will load the crate for you however.
When we deliver your possessions back to you, our operatives will do all the unloading and place your items in the relevant rooms under your supervision.
What furniture can I store?
Any standard sized furniture can be stored in our storage crates. If you want to store oversized furniture and are not sure if it would fit within a standard crate, then please speak with one of our agents who will be able to advise you further.
If your furniture can be broken down before storage, we would recommend doing this to make the most of your storage space.
